A man who works as a dishwasher at a famous restaurant in Copenhague, Denmark, has become part-owner of the place.

Noma, which has won recognition as the world's best restaurant in four instances, decided to incorporate 62-year-old Ali Sonko as a partner. He has been working at this two-Michelin starred place since it opened.

This immigrant's main job was always as a dishwasher.

Sonko immigrated to Denmark 34 years ago from his native Gambia, and is now part of the proud team of three that will manage Noma’s reopening in December. The location where they functioned for 14 years was closed, and will become from now on an "urban farm".

Chef Rene Redzepi said "Ali is the heart and soul of Noma," adding that "he is all smiles, no matter how his 12 children fare.”

A viral picture of the three new partners was posted to Redzepi’s Instagram account, with a caption that said: "This is only the beginning, as we plan to surprise several more of our staff with a piece of the walls that they have chosen to work so hard within."

Sonko had been a farmer in Gambia before his arrival in Denmark. He now says he "cannot describe how happy I am to work here," claiming it is the best job he has ever had.
