Seven suspects accused of killing former Kabete MP George Muchai fired 17 bullets from a G3 rifle at him, his two body guards and driver, a ballastic expert told a court on Tuesday.

A senior assistant superintendent of police Alex Mwandawiro, who examined firearms forwarded to him to conduct forensic examination, said all the guns availed for verification had been used.

Mr Mwandawiro, who was led by state prosecutor Celestine Oluoch in testifying against the suspects who are facing murder and robbery with violence charges, said 17 bullets were fired from the G3 rifle presented to him, five from a Ceska pistol and 15 from another pistol.

During cross-examination by defence lawyers, the expert however said he could not tell from which suspect the firearms were recovered.

ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE

Mr Mwandawiro explained to the court in detail how each of the guns worked and how he deduced the ammunition each gun fired.

The accused Margaret Njeri Wachuiri, Raphael Kimani Gachii alia Kim Butchcher, Kimani Anyonyi alias Musti, Stephen Asiliva Lipapo alias Chokore, Erick Muyera Isabwa alias chairman, Jane Wanjiru Kamau alias Shiro and Simon Wambugu Gichamba have all denied the murder charges.

stating they shot the politician dead alongside his driver at two bodyguards on February 7 2015 opposite Nyayo House.

The suspects also denied violently robbing Mr Muchai, his two body guards and his driver and subsequently shooting them dead.

Moments before accosting the late Muchai in the wee hours within the CBD on February 7, 2015 the suspects are also accused of having violently robbed two sisters.
