Uber drivers said yesterday they are on strike to demand for higher rates for their services.

Speaking in Nairobi yesterday, Digital Taxis Association Chairman David Dawoud said drivers are ‘not making much money’ after Uber’s recent fare reviews amid increasing cost of fuel and operations. Fares are based on a combination of base fare, trip time and distance travelled.

“Uber has reduced fares in many other countries across the world and the impact has almost always been an increase in the number of trips by new and existing riders and, in many cases, higher than average net earnings for driver-partners. Uber succeeds when our partners succeed,” said the firm’s spokesperson.
